NOTICE OF SPECIAL CITY ELECTION Notice is hereby given that on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 an election for the purpose of determining whether the City of Athens, Alabama shall be authorized to increase the rate at which the City is authorized to levy the tax authorized by Amendment 8 to the Constitution of Alabama for a special purpose or purposes to a maximum rate in any tax year which is equal to $1.20 on each $100 (12 mills on each dollar) of assessed value, and to levy annually in the City such tax authorized by Amendment 8 to the Constitution of the State of Alabama for a special purpose or purposes, at the rate of $1.20 on each $100 for a period of thirty (30) successive years, commencing with the levy for the tax year which will begin on October 1, 2016 (for which tax year taxes will become payable on October 1, 2016), and continuing until the tax year which will begin on October 1, 2045 (for which tax year taxes will become payable on October 1, 2045), for the payment of the costs of construction and equipping of a new Athens High School and a new Athens Elementary School, improving and converting the existing Athens High School into Athens Middle School, constructing community safe rooms on all school campuses, and other acquisition, construction, rehabilitation, improvement and equipping of school buildings for the Athens City Schools, including the payment of principal of and interest on obligations issued for the purpose of financing or refinancing the costs of such acquisition, construction, rehabilitation, improvement and equipping. The said election shall be held at the following regularly established voting places in said City between the legal hours for holding of elections: WARD OR PRECINCT NO. Marks Mayor, City of Athens, Alabama NOTICE OF SPECIAL CITY ELECTION Notice is hereby given that a special election of the qualified electors of the City of Athens in the State of Alabama has been called and will be held in said City on August 25, 2015, at which election there will be submitted to the qualified electors of the City, for their approval or rejection, the question of whether the City shall be authorized to issue on its credit its General Obligation School Improvement Bonds, not exceeding $74,000,000 in principal amount, in one or more series, for the purpose of raising funds for the construction and equipping of a new Athens High School and a new Athens Elementary School, improving and converting the existing Athens High School into Athens Middle School, constructing community safe rooms on all school campuses, and other acquisition, construction, rehabilitation, improvement and equipping of school buildings for the Athens City Schools, and paying the costs of issuance of such bonds, or any thereof, which bonds shall bear interest at a rate or rates to be fixed when they are sold, not exceeding six and one-half percent (6.50%) per annum payable semiannually until their respective maturities, and shall mature and become payable on February 1 in the following years and amounts: Year Principal Amount Maturing Year Principal Amount Maturing 2017 $130,000 2032 $2,135,000 2018 $130,000 2033 $2,245,000 2019 $130,000 2034 $2,455,000 2020 $220,000 2035 $2,805,000 2021 $725,000 2036 $2,940,000 2022 $760,000 2037 $3,645,000 2023 $1,195,000 2038 $3,820,000 2024 $1,255,000 2039 $4,010,000 2025 $1,315,000 2040 $4,205,000 2026 $1,395,000 2041 $4,405,000 2027 $1,470,000 2042 $4,620,000 2028 $1,540,000 2043 $4,845,000 2029 $1,615,000 2044 $5,085,000 2030 $1,945,000 2045 $5,300,000 2031 $2,040,000 2046 $5,590,000 The said election shall be held between the hours of 7:00 o'clock, A.M. and 7:00 o'clock, P.M., at the following regularly established voting places in the several voting precincts and wards in the City: WARD OR PRECINCT NO.
